Elekta Studio has been designed to innovate and improve the
experience of patients receiving image guided radiation therapy
treatment. It allows for precise, image-guided brachytherapy
treatment improving radiation dose distribution whilst maintaining
an acceptable dose to organs at risk (OARs) as well as fast,
adaptive treatment planning.
Brachytherapy treatment is a
form of radiotherapy that can be used for a range of cancer
treatments. Brachytherapy is sometimes known as 'internal radiation
therapy'.
Brachytherapy makes it possible for the radiation oncologist to
accurately deliver higher doses of radiation to more specific areas
of the body in comparison to conventional forms of radiation therapy
(external beam radiation), effectively targeting cancer cells whilst
minimizing potential damage to healthy cells.
Interventional radiology cancer treatment involves minimally
invasive surgical procedures through small incisions in the body
based on medical imaging. The imaging equipment typically used
includes fluoroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed
tomography (CT), and ultrasound.
As a less invasive alternative to traditional surgery,
interventional radiology can in many circumstances reduce cost as
well as patient recovery time, pain and risk.

A comprehensive 3D image-guided brachytherapy solution
Elekta CT/ magnetic resonance (MR) applicators provide artifact-free
images in CT and MR - even in the case of image fusion.
High-definition visibility in CT images of applicators, needles and
specialized markers provides swift and accurate reconstruction.
ImagingRing is a solution to the image-guided brachytherapy workflow
in Elekta Studio, enabling almost instant image acquisition whenever
needed—for the initial treatment plan, for adaptive planning, or
before treatment delivery.
High-quality DICOM images are sent directly to Oncentra Brachy for
treatment planning. Here, the images can be used alone for planning
or registered with the CT or MRI images acquired before the
treatment or previous fractions in the treatment planning process.
Once approved, the plan is sent to the Flexitron afterloader for
treatment delivery and stored in MOSAIQ.
ImagingRing provides 2D and 3D imaging capability for afterloader
quality assurance and applicator commissioning.
